Obituary

Vera Jermaine Stephens passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at Rosewood Health Facility in Bakersfield, CA. Most knew her simply as “Granny” and in her later years as “Boots”. She was born on April 22,1922 in Climbing Hill, Iowa, to Henry John and Alice Marie Sherman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Stephens; siblings, Velda, Toots, Gayle Sherman, and Sons; Larry, Tracy Hansen.

Beloved mother, mother-in law, sister, aunt “Granny” and friend to everyone she met.

She was survived by brother Buzz Sherman of Norwalk, daughter Cindy and husband Ric Robins, Stepson, Brian Stephens, Stepdaughter Cindy Crow, Grandchildren - Larry and Chris Hansen, Ricky Ephrom, Jr., Jenny and husband Aaron McGee, and Cindy May. Great Grandchildren – Blake, Styles, Macy, Miles, Hannah, Holly, Jeremy, Michael and Chawntell – Great-Great Grandchildren Dallas, Zane, Miya, Kiara and many nieces and nephews and Jake, Granny’s forever therapy dog!

Throughout her life, she was a devoted wife, mother and most of all, granny. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Leo, fishing, parasailing at age 80, enjoying cruises to Alaska, riverboats on the Mississippi, and trips with friends to Branson Missouri. She love to dance, play Texas Hold’em and more importantly, surrounding herself with family.

Vera was a kind and loving woman holding the highest integrity in life and above all passionate and proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially her Little Me Too, Jenny McGee! 😊

Vera will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, warmth, energy, loving embrace, unconditional love and love for life. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven watching over us.

Please join us for her Celebration of Life - Saturday, January 25th at Rosewood Health Facility, in the Redwood Room from 1:00 – 3:00pm 1301 New Stine Rd., Bakersfield, CA. 93309

I want to thank everyone at Rosewood who took care & loved my mom, Hoffmann Hospice for the love she was shown in her final days and for Kern River Mortuary who gave me peace of mind. Thank you , Ric & Cindy Robins & Family
