Obituary

Colleen Waite, 90, Passed away December 19th due to Covid-19. Colleen was born February 17, 1930 in Mesquite, Nevada to James Elmer and Mary Emily Abbott Hughes. Following graduation from high school, Colleen married Cecil Erwin Waite on August 18, 1948 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
In 1951 they moved to Bakersfield, California as Erwin began a 33 year career in school administration. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Colleen held many positions in the church: primary president, relief society president, young women’s president, ambassador (missionary) to Sierra Leone, served alongside Erwin, who was president of the Michigan Lansing Mission, and served in the LDS Los Angeles Temple for over 20 years. Her entire life was one of serving others and showing Christ-like love to all.
Colleen is preceded in death by her dear husband, Erwin, and is survived by their four children: Greg (Liz), Bonnie (Don) Phillips, Debbie (Richard) Riggs, Jim (Lisa) and 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Due to Covid restrictions there will be no funeral. Interment pending will be at the Bakersfield National Cemetery.
